Lindows Promotes Porn
That can't be right. Lindows. Promoting porn. Did I read that correctly? Let me read it again. I surely did read it right the first time. Lindows promotes porn. The quotes are at the bottom of this article. They've been dutifully logged by multiple users, and verified several times. Actual screenshots appear below. It's really true. Lindows promotes porn. Starting with Lindows president Kevin Carmony. As noted below, Kevin Carmony got sick of the flamewars started by Lindows (now Linspire - they are using chameleon tricks to avoid lawsuits they brought on themselves) users on Lindows/Linspire forums, DesktopOS.com forums, etc., so he started a particular website, a nasty, evil, viscious place. Kevin Carmony is known for getting extremely frustrated, and doing rash things. So what did he do to try to deflect the heat from Lindows? He went out and, as "Mr. X," registered linuxxxforum.com, as well as several related sites such as linuxxxforum.org. The sites are designed to have no moderation and no regulation. Users can post whatever they wish, including volatile topics such as sex, race, and religion. If you visit the site, you'll be greeted by posts dealink with racism, religion, and of course, pornography. Note the XXX in the domain name. The sites are registered to Network Solutions in Virginia, instead of to Carmony directly, because it is not illegal to provide false registration information. So now we have Lindows up to their old tricks, giving out false information. Kevin Carmony shared this information with Lindows "insiders". Lindows/Linspire "insiders" pay for this title, and Carmony is always second banana to Robertson, so he likes to feel that people want him. Lindows is famous for its "revisionist history" in such areas as claiming they were already Windows compatible and announcing "the first AOL PC" even though AOL and Lindows had no agreements signed whatsoever. When faced with mounting cries to back up their claims, they recanted and rewrote press releases, deleted articles from the web, and implemented other such revisionist tactics. It doesn't surprise most people now to find out that Kevin Carmony would provide false information when registering multiple websites. Now that the lawsuit pressure from Microsoft is mounting, they changed their names. Typical con men tactics. But then there's that porn connection. One can be treated to a link for a "chocolate covered babe" by visiting the site and the thread of the same name. A link to a completely naked woman is available, covered in what appears to be thin chocolate syrup. Other porn links can be found in the "Best Links" "Favorite porn?" and "What men learn from porn" threads. Spanking, S&M, gay porn, you name it, you'll find it there, "provided by Lindows President Kevin Carmony." Yes, that's a direct quote from the Lindows forum pages. And no one at Lindows has taken it down in over two weeks. Not one of the moderators or staff members has taken anything regarding this site off of the Lindows forums. Why? One can only speculate. Lindows sells "SurfSafe" as one of its products. This program is supposed to "Protect your family from Internet pornography and other objectionable material." What better way to have something to protect your users from than by providing it yourself! Because the posts on DesktopOS.com and the Lindows forums remain after such a long time, one can only guess that the project has the full backing of Lindows and Michael Robertson. SurfSafe has an annual service subscription, so Lindows can continue to add additional objectionable sites to the internet, and help protect their subscribers from themselves. More ingenious marketing from Michael Robertson! So that brings me back to the beginning of this article. Lindows. Out there promoting pornography. Actively. Purposefully. And recently. I can't believe it's come to this. Lindows, spearheaded by Michael Robertson, portrays itself as the downtrodden company, kicked by so many. No doubt Michael Robertson will have to issue a Michael's Minute on this subject, telling users how they are still protected from Lindows staffers, how it's really a good thing to promote free speech, and how his company was maligned. Sounds to me to be just the sort of material that Robertson would love to write, just as his diatribe on the dishonest MP3.com IPO. In that article, Michael claimed that there were many irregularities, and lots of people making dishonest money off the IPO, basically claiming that all the money earned by the IPO was tainted. The one detail he seems to have left out is that he personally made hundreds of millions of dollars off the IPO, and so did his second in command there, the same Kevin Carmony. Hundreds of millions in tainted money gained through stock deals, giving out blatantly false information (we used to call that lying when I was a child) and now promoting pornography. Lest anyone say they're not - why would Kevin Carmony put up such a site, and Lindows would leave up all references to it, and to Kevin Carmony being the one who started it, unless it weren't true? It's really hard to believe, but there it is in black and white. Lindows promotes porn. And based on the responses by their users, on their own forums, it's perfectly okay with most of them. I still have a hard time believing it. Lindows, the company that tries to portray their wholesome image as the martyr of the computing world, out there promoting porn. ---------------------------- From DesktopOS.com: From forum.lindows.com:
